Il sostantivo “argomento” non va tradotto con argument quando si parla di un oggetto in discussione. I termini corretti in questo caso sono topic, issue o subject: I don't know much about this topic, non so molto di questo argomento (non I don't know much about this argument). Il significato principale di argument è “litigio”, “discussione”: They had an argument, hanno avuto un litigio. Argument significa anche “ragionamento”, e in questa accezione può essere tradotto in italiano con “argomento”: His argument is flawed, il suo argomento (o ragionamento) è fallace.
